That makes Tony think that the layers with the fossils were once at the bottom of the ocean, too. But today, some of the layers he studies are high overhead. How did they get there? The layers can only be on dry land now if something from below has lifted them. If the layers rose, the whole Isthmus must have risen. In fact, the Isthmus is still rising.
