On the wall of the Cuauhtinchan church cloister, an unknown 17th century native artist painted this depiction of the Annunciation, based on a European print. This traditional New Testament scene, a favorite of Old World artists, is flanked here by a leopard and an eagle, symbols of the founding and the power of the indigenous people of Cuauhtinchan.
