Charles Higham is a tireless field archaeologist who brings a scientific approach to his research. “You have a model, you have a series of interlocking hypotheses that you come into the site with, and then you test it against new data. We try and produce a reasonably well sustained and supported interpretation of what might have gone on, conscious all the time that it will change, so if we go to another site and open up a similarly big area I have no doubt that whatever we will find here will need refinement and change.”
